FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Where does this game take place?
Every character in the game resides in present day Orange County, California. How they've come to live there is entirely up to you. They could have been born there, moved there or simply felt they needed to be there for some unknown reason. Can my character leave?
Sure. There's no evil corporation or magical force keeping the characters in Orange County, but there's not much in the way of interaction if everyone leaves. The characters will have a nagging feeling that they need to stay in this area. Why Orange County?
Pretty much anything you need for your character is located in this area. There are large corporations, farm land, an active night life and plenty of unique cities to chose from. What about the network?
The network is kind of like modern day blogging, except every person has one, uses it regularly and is connected with every other blog via "the network". It's just like a regular IJ community that we use in real life, so icons are present. Try not to think too hard about it.Does this game take place in real time?
Yes. The year is 2016 and everything that has happened in the real world has happened in game. This means that all fandoms exist in game as they do in the real world. How does my character get their canon memories back?
Characters have to earn their memories through participation in the game. After passing Activity Check successfully, your characters are able to 'unlock' their memories. Please see the 'unlock system' page for more details. What if my character decides to ignore their canon memories?
It's entirely up to the player if they want their character to believe or ignore the dreams and memories. They can live their life in denial or they can come to accept their canon history over time. There is nothing forcing them to believe. What if there is a cast mate already in game that has all of their canon memories? What is stopping them from telling my new character what's what?
Every character in the game should be mindful of a new character's journey after having gone through it themselves. While there is nothing in place physically preventing them from doing so, we ask that characters keep the histories to themselves, but even if something slips there's no reason why a new character has to believe any of it.My character is a superhero or villain in canon. Once they get all of their memories back do they have to go back to that lifestyle?
That depends upon the character. There's no reason why they have to go back to that life and remember that they still have both sets of memories. If they are evil in canon maybe the new life helps keep them good. How AU can I go with this?
Again, it's up to you! The character can have some similarities to their canon self or they can be completely different. We just ask that you keep the PB the same if they are from a movie or TV show. How long do I have to wait to apply for characters from brand new movies or television?
For newly released movies, the wait time for applying for a character is one week from the release date. This is to avoid spoilers, to ensure the movie has been released on all coasts of the US, and that there's been a good amount of time allotted to see it.My character is supernatural and is four thousand years old in canon. How old should I make them in the game?
Obviously characters can't believe they are that old, so we ask that you choose a PB that fits their canon description and keep the age range within five years of that PB's actual age. What if my character's name is something not common in the real world? Do I still use it?
Yes and this is something that we tend to hand-wave. Other characters won't think their name is funny. We're trying not to be overly complicated here. Can I incorporate cast mates into my AU history?
Yes. All canon family relations need to be kept the same at the very least, but feel free to play around with the type of relationship they have with each other as much as you want. What if my character is related to someone already in game and they're not the correct age?
This game runs on a first come, first serve basis. This means that the first person in a particular family gets to create the AU version of that family. Sometimes this means that certain characters can't be picked up or that they must be picked up at a certain age. When in doubt? Ask! Sometimes you will find the players in that family/fandom willing to accommodate you and your character idea. What if my character met and married another character in canon? Must they still be married to that person in the game?
No. If it is considered to be a newer relationship, or one that has happened over the course of canon it does not need to remain the same in the game. We only ask that immediate family members remain the same. Meaning parents, siblings and children if they are of a playable age for the game.I want to take my female character from a canon point where she is pregnant. How does that equate in the au world?
If your character is pregnant in canon, they do not need to be pregnant in game. We feel this restricts the possible in game relationships too much. Although if you would like for your character to still be pregnant this is also acceptable, it's just not required. My character is crippled in canon. Do they have to be crippled in game?
Not at all. When they regain the memory of their condition, it won't change them physically in game unless you want it to. It's just a memory. My character isn't human in canon. When they regain their memories do they change back to being non-human?
This is handled on a case by case basis and is usually left up to the player to decide. If the player does decide to change the race and needs a PB change, they can fill out a PB change request. PB's are allowed to be changed once a month. My character in canon has supernatural abilities. Do they in the game?
No, not until they regain most or all of their canon memories. For example, if your character is a witch they wouldn't start noticing their magic until they start regaining their memories. It will start out slowly, just like the process of receiving memories. They won't be a full fledged witch until all of their canon memories have been regained. Once that happens anyone who has not yet regained their memories will see your character as a mere human until their own awakening has started happening. The thing that makes my character special is an item from their home world. If they regain their canon memories of that item can they ever get it?
Yes! After Your character's first activity check, they can receive items from their home world at a rate of 2 per month. Please keep in mind if it is a magical item, the item will have little to no powers until most or all memories are redeemed. Also, extremely large or powerful items may require an in-game plot. The mods will discuss this with you if there are any concerns!HOW DOES THIS GAME HANDLE DROPPED CHARACTERS?
Unfortunately this is something that we have to hand wave. If you lost a storyline partner you might want to try to find someone to pick up the character with the same au back story, but as far as future players are concerned? If they want to pick up that character they get a clean slate. Also, if the same player wants to pick up a character they've dropped, they lose any unspent 'unlocks' they would have gained that month. So, please be extra sure you want to drop someone before you do it.How do you plan to incorporate fun plot lines into the game?
A lot of panfandom games have fun premises that allow for whacky plots like body switching and other things that can't be explained in the "real world". These kinds of plot lines do have a place in this game and participating characters will rarely be able to come up with an explanation. They just happen. What if there is a plot I am not interested in participating in, but it's so large it would be hard for my character to ignore?
Don't worry! Players are rarely required to partake in any of the game-wide plots. We've created The Agency to handle a believable way for your character to ignore any plots players are not interested in. We only ask that the opted-out characters believe the explanation they are given. Are original characters allowed?
Yes and no. We don't accept fandom original characters, but we do accept original characters that are needed to fulfill an au family.I am picking up a character from a book or video game, but the played by I want to use is already taken.
That's okay! You can still use that face for your character. Since this is a panfandom game and lots of times actors play characters on more than one popular series, it's allowed. In game the characters will seem to look somewhat familiar, but it won't be something the characters will overtly notice.Didn't you guys used to have some kind of point system?
We did! But that system was phased out on July 1st, 2014. We feel the new unlock system allows us to keep the original premise of the game going while providing both the players and the mod staff with a bit more free time to write. It also feels a little more approachable for new players and characters.
